About Natasha

Natasha Shakespeare, M. Ed  (Black Settler, she/her), grew up in Simcoe County in a rural predominantly White community. After Natasha's child experienced the same types of incidents she had with anti-Black racism as a child, Natasha founded the non-profit organization Parents Against Racism Simcoe County. Natasha completed her Master’s Degree in Education: Curriculum and Instruction,  2 College Diplomas one in Police Foundations and the other in Behavioural Science, and multiple certificates in topics such as anti-oppression, anti-racism, Indigenous studies and 2SLGBTQIA+. Professionally she has worked in the Developmental Services, Healthcare, Mental Health and Education Systems. Natasha remains committed to her community, serving on many committees and councils that focus on advocacy and anti-racism, such as being the Chair of the Black Workers Initiative Council, 2020-2021 and a member of One Vision One Voice Black Community Advisory Committee, from 2020-present. Natasha is known in her community to be an Activist, Community Organizer and Advocate. Natasha can acknowledge that her privilege of being formally educated is what people often look to, although Natasha believes her lived experience far outweighs any piece of paper from an institution. There are skills and knowledge that cannot simply not be taught, no matter the institution you attend. You will appreciate the way Natasha can articulate her experiences to increase your understanding and support your journey of learning and unlearning.
